To Wash or Not Wash That Is the Question?

Before I went natural stop the process of pressing my hair everytime it revert to its natural pattern I would wash my hair with shampoo about every two weeks or so that dependent on the type of activity I was doing. I would wash my hair with load of shampoo and put a dalop of conditioner on my hair for less than a minute.(Im shaking my head as I type this) That was my hair washing techinques before I got educated

My second month of journey of being natural I would still wash my hair with shampoo and this time I added more conditioner and keep it on for 3o mins or so. Than Later I learned about the "curly girl method" to just wash hair only with conditioner(co.wash). I have been using this method ever since so a little over a year and I can tell you my hair has benifit from it a great deal. Learning about the harsh sulfates in shampoo made me use them less. I now only co. wash. I might was my hair with some shampoo but that is very rare only when I feel my hair to be very gross feeling.

The benifits of co.washing method for me

My hair has more shine to it. It is not so dull

My hair is more manageable

My coils are more noticeable

My hair feels stronger

My hair is softer than before

My hair is not as brittle as before

So What Do You Do?

Why I love olive oil

As we all know olive oil has great benifits for the body inside and out. It is great for cooking and healtheir for the degsitive system. But Im going to talk about the great benifits olive oil has for the outside of the body. Rember take care of the inside before you do the outside!!!

The reason I like olive oil for my hair is that is moisturize my hair with out cloging the pores and it gives the hair a great shine. Olive oil is realtivley cheap and for a natural on a budget and it is one of the must have prouducts. Adding olive oil to your fave conditione will add more slipage and it is also helping with deep conditioning as well.

Usage of olive oil

Hot oil treatment no need to buy a treatment at your local beauty store. Make your own hot oil treatment with olive oil

Use it to message scalp every night!!!!

Challenge continues

oh my forty more day until the end of my braid challenge I so surprise I made it this far. I also have 14 more days until my 1yr 6month anniversary!!!!!

The question is what to do with my hair after this. I think I going to wait toward 2 years and 4 months that is when I probably start wearing my hair down. I'm still learning.

Natural Hair vs. Press(Relax) Hair

I was thinking about how happy that I decided to go natural and stop the heat abuse on my hair. If you read my story you know how I came to be natural and my journey still continues. So I was thinking of pro and cons when it comes to natural vs press(relax) hair.

Natural

Pros:

  1. versatile (my hair can get so many different curl patterns; wavy, coils, crinkles, and very tight coils).
  2. less shedding,and breakage,
  3. no more running from the rain,
  4. no more trips to expensive beauty shops
  5. little products, no expensive appliances(curling iron got my own curls, flat irons, pressing combs)
  6. wear my styles for long period of time
  7. wet my hair anytime no worrying about it reverting
  8. no smell of burnt hair,
  9. no more burning scalp
  10. 100+ styles
  11. looks nice no matter how uneven my parts are
  12. it is so fun to explore and learn,
  13. I'm thinking outside the box with my hair
  14. easy to manage despite myths
  15. protective styles
  16. let hair rest
  17. scalp is healthy
  18. get many compliments
  19. I can stretch my hair to show length if I wanted too
  20. Freedom
  21. Cool scalp
Cons:
  1. hmmmmmmmmm... shrinkage I had to put one

Press(relax hair)

Pros:

  1. show length(That is all I got)

Cons:

seriously so many

  1. heat damage
  2. scalp damage
  3. breakage
  4. thinning hair
  5. loss of natural curl pattern
  6. burning scalp
  7. loss of protein in hair
  8. not versatile
  9. expensive(weekly trips to beauty shop)
  10. to much up keep
  11. to many products
  12. Cant get hair wet when wont to refresh
  13. not able to deep condition hair on a weekly basis
  14. no protective styles
  15. no different styles that you can switch easily
  16. not thinking outside the box
  17. massive split ends
  18. breakage
  19. long time damage
  20. If you have a perm it my be permanent
  21. thinnign edges
  22. having to do same routine every two weeks boring!!

To Trim or not To Trim?

I have always had this question about triming my hair. Do I do the normal standard of every four weeks or spot trim. Well I have not trimed my hair in the past 5 months or so. My hair is doing pretty well. I do spot trim because I can not stand split ends. When I was pressing and straightening my hair I would have to trim, or cut my hair quit often because of all the heat damage!! That I no longer have to do.

how did i do this

I have joined my blog twice trying to join someone else how do I re-do this?

Hey followers

Thanks for joining my blog I fell so special!!! Leave your blog space so I can be your follower as well!! See you in cyber space!!!!

Challenges

When I first went natural I really had no goals other not to put anymore heat on my hair and with my second hair anniversary months away I can say I doing pretty good. Now that I have learn so much about my hair I have started challenges. For example my very first challenge was to wear my twist for whole month that challenge failed. I took my twist out the first week. As months pass I tried again, this time I was determined to do a month and yes I succeeded.
My new challenge is now individual braids. My goal is to wear them for three months I got them on Dec. 26 so I have already passed my first month can I make it through my second? I think I can. So the count down continues. 49 more days until end of braid challenge. So I have my challenge what is yours?

Why I love avocado

Avocado is great for the hair it has all the nutrients that your hair may be missing. It seals in moisture as well. This is no wonder why so many conditioners have avocado as one of their ingridents. I like to put mashed avocado in my hair as a deep treatment. Its a little messy but it is very benifical!

What to do?
1 avocad0
1/2tsp of olive oil(optional)
l
Mix together very well make sure avocado is smashed very well. You do not wont lumps in your hair. When doing this make sure it's a spa day and you have no other worries take your time to unwind. Take hair in to sections four or six depending on hair and massage mixture into hair twist sections and put on shower cap for 1hr or so... I like to do two hours. Dont forget to move around a little so you can generate some heat!! This is my fav. deep conditioner and it all natural love it!

Just Let It Be!

When going natural you don't have to manipulate your hair that much it is best to keep hair in protective styles not only to let it grow but to keep split ends at bay.

Protective styles are styles that you can wear for your hair for at least two weeks or more. For me when I first went natural I would wear twist for a week I notice that I would still comb my hair a lot than I change it to two weeks and I saw less brakage now I wear my twist upto two-four weeks. Less combing is the key let your hair rest!

Some protective styles that I know of:
Twist
Buns
Braids
Bantu Knots

Product that are cheap and that your hair will love!!!!

1. Water
2.Olive oil
3. Conditioner
